The Australian Freediving Association and the Brisbane Bullsharks Freediving Club will host the AFA Pool National Championships in Brisbane from Fri, 16 Sept to Sun, 18 Sept, 2022 at the Sleeman Sports Complex. This competition is conducted under the AIDA International rules and is open to all AFA members regardless of their nationality. It is not a world record status competition.

As announced in 2019 the AFA will not follow the AIDA points system for this competition as we feel it is outdated, for example we want to make it fair to those choosing DYNB rather than DYN. We will email athletes with details of the points system in the coming weeks. You will get the normal points recorded into the AIDA ranking system. (photo credit – Adam Sellars)

Recreation Grade

The AFA has decided to introduce a recreation grade for the AFA AIDA Pool nationals this year. Recreation grade is for athletes who have never competed before who would like to try a competition with a little less pressure. Recreation grade is not open for official AIDA rankings and is judged less strictly than competition grade. If you want to compete and get AIDA rankings you’ll need to join under the competition grade.

We will be reducing the registration price for those wanting to compete rec grade.

On or before Wednesday, 31 August: A$95
Thursday, 1 September – Thursday, 8 September: A$110
Friday, 9 September – Thursday, 15 September: A$130

If you want to compete in rec grade please use the same registration link but don’t make the payment. The AFA will email you a link for payment once we receive your registration information.

Competition Grade

On or before Sunday, 28 August: A$175
Monday, 29 August – Sunday, 4 September: A$190
